Download the most recent TeXLive install-tl-windows.exe from their website. Run install-tl-windows.exe and follow the instructions. Windows (MiKTeX) Download the most recent MiKTeX installer from their website. Run the installer and follow the instructions. Mac OS X (TeXLive) Download the most recent MacTeX from their website. MiKTeX for Mac is distributed as a disk image (.dmg) file. If you double click the disk image file, you will see a Finder window: To install MiKTeX, simply drag the MiKTeX icon onto the Applications shortcut icon. This will install the MiKTeX Console application and essential support files (executables, frameworks, configuration files). You can install ImageMagick from source. However, if you don't have a proper development environment or if you're anxious to get started, download a ready-to-run Linux or Windows executable. Before you download, you may want to review recent changes to the ImageMagick distribution.
ImageMagick source and binary distributions are available from a variety of FTP and Web mirrors around the world.
Linux Binary Release
These are the Linux variations that we support. If your system is not on the list, try installing from source. Although ImageMagick runs fine on a single core computer, it automagically runs in parallel on multi-core systems reducing run times considerably.

The brew command downloads and installs ImageMagick with many of its delegate libraries (e.g. JPEG, PNG, Freetype, etc). Homebrew no longer allows configurable builds; if you need different compile options (e.g. librsvg support), you can download the ImageMagick Mac OS X distribution we provide:

Note, the display program requires the X11 server available on your Mac OS X installation DVD. Once that is installed, you will also need to set export DISPLAY=:0.
The best way to deal with all the exports is to put them at the end of your .profile file

iOS Binary Release

You can download the iOS distribution directly from ImageMagick's repository.
There are always 2 packages for the compiled ImageMagick:
- iOSMagick-VERSION-libs.zip
- iOSMagick-VERSION.zip
The first one includes headers and compiled libraries that have been used to compile ImageMagick. Most users would need this one.

To run the script:
where VERSION is the version of ImageMagick you want to compile (i.e.: 7.1.0-8, svn, ...)
This script compiles ImageMagick as a static library to be included in iOS projects and adds support for
- png
- jpeg
- tiff
Upon successful compilation a folder called IMPORT_ME is created on your ~/Desktop. You can import it into your Xcode project.

After including everything into Xcode please also make sure to have these settings (Build tab of the project information):

Sample project
A sample project is available for download. It is not updated too often, but it does give an idea of all the settings and some ways to play around with ImageMagick in an iOS application.
Windows Binary Release
ImageMagick runs on Windows 10 (x86 & x64), Windows 8 (x86 & x64), Windows 7 (x86 & x64), Windows Server 2012, Windows Vista (x86 & x64) with Service Pack 2, Windows Server 2008 (x86 & x64) with Service Pack 2, and Windows Server 2008 R2 (x64).
The amount of memory can be an important factor, especially if you intend to work on large images. A minimum of 512 MB of RAM is recommended, but the more RAM the better. Although ImageMagick runs well on a single core computer, it automagically runs in parallel on multi-core systems reducing run times considerably.
The Windows version of ImageMagick is self-installing. Simply click on the appropriate version below and it will launch itself and ask you a few installation questions. Versions with Q8 in the name are 8 bits-per-pixel component (e.g. 8-bit red, 8-bit green, etc.), whereas, Q16 in the filename are 16 bits-per-pixel component. A Q16 version permits you to read or write 16-bit images without losing precision but requires twice as much resources as the Q8 version. Versions with dll in the filename include ImageMagick libraries as dynamic link libraries. Unless you have a Windows 32-bit OS, we recommend this version of ImageMagick for 64-bit Windows:

Base Requirements
KLatexFormula runs natively on most Linux Distributions, Mac OS X and Windows.
You'll need to install LaTeX:
Miktex Downloads
- On Linux, latex is most certainly in your distribution packages. Look for 'texlive'.
- On Mac OS X, there's for example MacTeX.
- On Windows, there's for example MikTeX.
You'll also need ghostsctipt, although this is usually included in major TeX distributions for Windows and Mac OS X.
Qt 4 is also a requirement, minimum version 4.4 (but Qt is included in Windows and Mac packages, so don't worry about this). KLatexFormula doesn't compile (yet) with Qt 5.
If you want to compile KLatexFormula, you will additionally need the CMake build system, version 2.6.4 or greater.
To build and run the KTextEditor plugin that is provided with klatexformula, you will need KDE 4. See also User Manual:CMake compilation options. KDE is NOT needed for KLatexFormula itself.
Linux Users
Latex is usually shipped with your distribution. Try browsing your distribution packets if it's not installed by default. Otherwise you may have a look on http://www.latex-project.org. Same for dvips; check out http://www.radicaleye.com.
gs (ghostscript) is the base package for viewing and manipulating PS, so it is most likely already installed on your system. If it isn't, check again your distribution packages. You may want to check out http://ghostscript.com/ for more information.
Qt is usually packaged for your distribution, so again check your package lists. If not, you can download and compile Qt from http://qt-project.org/.
If you want to compile KLatexFormula from source, you will need the relevant development packages:
- gcc, g++
- make (gnu make)
- cmake (version 2.6.4 or higher)
- qt4 and qt4-devel (version 4.4 or higher)
The exact package names may vary between the various linux distributions (Ubuntu, OpenSUSE, Fedora, etc.)
Windows Users
LaTeX is of course NOT installed by default on your computer. Choose a LaTeX distribution for windows, such as MikTeX, and install it. MikTeX also provides ghostscript, so you won't need to install it separately; if you're using another LaTeX distribution, check out http://ghostscript.com/.

Qt 4 runtime libraries are included in the KLatexFormula installer for windows; you do not have to install them manually.
Mac OS X Users
You will need to have Latex and Gs installed. Grab for example MacTeX.
[In older versions of klatexformula you may have to manually enter the paths in the settings dialog (Fink distributions: usually /sw/bin/{latex|dvips|gs}, MacTeX: usually /usr/texbin/{latex|dvips} and /usr/local/bin/gs). These directories are now searched by default. Please notify me of other success stories (by e-mail, or by modifying this wiki page for example) so that I can add some clever search paths to look into by default.]
Qt 4 is embedded in the KLatexFormula binary package; it does not need to be installed separately.
Notes
As of KLatexFormula 3.0, KDE is no longer required. Only Qt 4 is needed, although the 'K' in the name was kept to avoid changing the name.
KLFBackend and KLFTools library requirements
Note for developers
The KLFBackend library, the core of KLatexFormula, as of KLatexFormula 3.3, no longer compiles with Qt 3. Qt 4 is required.
